How To Import Your Stop Motion Pictures Into Image Capture

• Plug in your camera to the computer or place your memory card into the computer.
•  Import your pictures by first opening Image Capture.
• Select on the pictures you want to import and make sure you notice where you are saving the pictures.

First, make a folder for your pictures. If you shot on multiple days please make sure your pictures are organized by day (make a separate folder for each day's pictures).
Select on just one of your pictures that you took for this project. Right

click 'Get Info.' You'll notice that the dimensions are listed under more info.
Write these dimensions down in your Notes app on the computer.

Computer Animation: Using grageband to create sound and exporting as an .mp3 file

•  Open Garageband
• Select Create new project
• Select voice
• Name Project
• Plug in headsets and click "Yes" when asked if you want to use C-Media USB Audio Device 
• Make sure you select C-Media USB in the Input 
• Choose and change vocals as needed you want to use

• Record your vocals by clicking red circle at bottom
•  Record multiple tracks if needed.
• Click Share at the top of the screen
• Select "Save to Disk"
• Change Format to MP3
• Name sound and save it to Desktop or Music Folder
•  Add your audio in Flash using File>Import to Library

Turn in 1 photo for printing and name it _Color_Print

These are due at the end of class on Friday, October 14th.

Your grade for this assignment will be based on several factors:

• Completion of each image turned in on a contact sheet.
• Turned in on time (formative)
• The quality and creativity of your 20 best images
• Your choice of which photos to possibly use for your portfolio (summative).

To export your Flash movies do the following:
Make sure you are in Flash
Select File>Export>Export Movie>Format QuicktimeMovie
Click Store Temp Data and Select On Disk in Quicktime Settings

Save it on the desktop.
Name it using the naming convention.
(1_lastname first initial_Yearbook SCNN Commercial)

Next,drop the video in the vidstore server.

SCNN Commercial Treatment Assignment

Your next assignment will be a 15-25 second (300+ frame ) SCNN commercial for anything school related. This could include a dance, a game, a club, an event, a sport, or anything else.

Content must be related to the specific school related item.
All animation should look sharp and detailed.
Use school colors where appropriate.
This must be entertaining in some way. Humor is always a good place to start.


Your animation needs to include:

• Music AND sound effects for everything
• Keyframe animation
• Shape tween
• Two Motion Tween
• Two Movie Clips
• Text that says either "SCNN" or the information for the school club, group, or event
• Dialogue created by you using Quicktime, Garageband, or other programs (have fun making voices and sound effects)

Most of these projects will be between 300 and 400 frames each at 12 frames per second.

First step: Commercial Treatment

You will write a detailed commercial treatment and email it to the coach or advisor of your club/activity/sport etc. You will ask for their permission to make a commercial and also ask for

suggestions. You will also send me a copy (CC) of this email at trent.mitchell@shorelineschools.org. The only way you will receive a grade for the treatment is if you email me a copy.

Begin your email with "Hello, my name is ____________ and I am in Mr. Mitchell's Computer Animation class. I would like to make a commercial for __________."

Adjusted Landscape Assignment

Today you have the entire period to edit Landscape photos in Photoshop.
First, pick your best 4 landscapes from each scenic location (12 total)  and place them in a folder.
Next, open up each one and touch them up in Photoshop to make the pictures look even better.

Below are some tutorials that will give you ideas on how to adjust landscapes. Please work through each one with separate landscape photos.

You can also do any of the following adjustments we talked about in class:
Get rid of power lines, garbage cans, and other distracting objects using Clone Stamp (S) and Copy/Paste.
Adjust the horizon line using Free Transform (Command-T).
Crop your picture as needed.
Change the overall color using color balance.
Adjust the warmth or coolness of your photo using Image>Adjustments>Photo Filter.

Please File>Save As each photo when you are done editing. Place these pictures in a new folder.

 Here is what is due to finish the Landscape Unit

1. 12 Photoshop Adjusted Landscapes from at all three locations with at least a 3*4 contact sheet. 

Call these 12 adjusted photos "Landscape Adjusted CS."
2. Your best Landscape saved as a .jpeg file. Call this "Best Landscape."

Landscape Homework Assignment

Landscape Homework over the next week:
 
Pick at least two scenic location where you can take pictures.
Pick places with water, mountains, trees, or a combination of all of the above. I would recommend Carkeek Park, Kerry Park, or Richmond Beach.

You will shoot many pictures at each location. Change angles and move all around the location.
You may shoot horizontal and vertical landscape pictures.

One of these photography sessions must be during sunset or sunrise.
Please do not center the horizon line and try to show something in the foreground, mid-ground, and background.

Spend 20 minutes going outside to shoot 12 landscape shots from the baseball, football, and softball fields.

• Make sure each shot has a large depth of field. In other words, make sure even the background objects are in focus.

Importing Pictures and Creating Contact Sheet in Adobe Bridge

 

• Make a folder on your desktop called Composition 1 (you will change the folder name for each assignment)
• Plug in your camera to the computer or place your memory card into the back of the computer in the horizontal SC Card slot.
•  Import your pictures by first opening Image Capture. Image capture is location in the Applications folder. You can also search for it in the upper right hand corner and open it there.
  
• You should see your pictures in Image Capture. Select on the pictures you want to import and make sure you notice where you are saving the pictures to the composition 1 folder on your computer. You can shift+click or command+click to select on specific pictures.

 

 

How to create a Contact Sheet in Adobe Bridge

1. Make sure you imported pictures using Image Capture
2. Select on the folder.
3. Open Adobe Bridge CS6

4. On left hand side find your folder and select it.

6. Select the files down below so that they show up in the Preview section. You can select the pictures via lasso, shift key, or command key.

7. On the right hand side select Output. Make sure .pdf is selected. Columns and rows will vary.

• 6 pictures means columns and rows=2*3
• 12 pictures means columns and rows=3*4
• 20 pictures means columns and rows 4*5
• 24 pictures means columns and rows=4*6

Make sure document is set to:

 8. Click save in the lower right hand corner. Save to your pictures folder.
9. Upload .pdf Contact Sheet to the Vidstore Server in the Classes folder.

The Elements and Principles of Design

This week and next week during class you will shoot 24-36 pictures with at least six different subjects.
Please shoot four  Rule of Thirds shots, four texture shots, four color contrast shots, four balance shots, four leading lines shots and four frame within a frame (using other objects to frame your subject) shots.


Homework: Do the same assignment above except use subjects and objects away from school.

• 15 INTERESTING shots using all four techniques described above. Some people will take 40-80 pictures for 15 good ones.

Computer Animation: Stop Motion Assignment

Your first project is a 600-800 frame stop motion animation assignment. 

You will shoot still pictures of objects or people and eventually make them move on a frame by frame basis. 

Here is the simplified version of the assignment: 

• Take a picture, move the object, take a picture, and move the object etc.
• This assignment is the only homework assignment this semester.
• You will shoot this assignment away from school anytime in the next four weeks.
• You can borrow a camera and/or tripod from me if needed

All pictures are due on Monday, October 10.

You will edit your videos in Adobe Premiere and add sound effects and music. Last year two Animation students from Shorecrest  won the Seattle Times Three Minute Masterpiece contest!
