10 Best Landscape Pictures: All Pictures Should Look "Real"

You will create a 10 picture contact Sheet called “Landcapes Adjusted.”

You will also send in your best picture as a separate jpeg called “Best Landscape.”

Landscape Grading Information:

·     Is a wide shot with a combination of trees, water, mountains, and other natural elements?

·     Does it have a foreground, mid-ground, and background?

·     Is the entire picture in focus (large Depth of Field)

·     Is it an INTERESTING subject?

·     Is the horizon line in the upper or lower third?

SCNN Commerical

Your next assignment will be a 15-25 second SCNN commercial for anything school related. This could include a dance, a game, a club, an event, or anything else. Content must be related to the specific school related item.
All animation should look sharp and detailed.
Use school colors where appropriate.


Your animation needs to include:

• Music AND sound effects throughout
• Keyframe animation
• Shape tween
• Two Motion Tween
• Two Movie Clips
• Text that says either "SCNN" or the information for the school club, group, or event
• Voices created by you using Garageband or other programs

Most of these projects will be between 200 and 400 frames each at 12 frames per second.

First step: Commercial Treatment

You will write a detailed commercial treatment and send it to the coach or advisor of your club/activity/sport etc. You will ask for their permission to make a commercial and also for suggestions. You will also send me a copy (CC) of this email.

Please do not center the horizon line and try to show something in the foreground, mid-ground, and background.

Today you will spend most of the class period shooting variety of camera compositions. You will attempt to shoot at least 3 different INTERESTING subjects for each composition.
Don't forget to change the camera angle and fill the frame.

The Elements and Principles of Design

  This Monday and Wednesday during class you will shoot 24-36 pictures with at least six different subjects. Please shoot three Rule of Thirds shots, three Unique Angle shots, three leading lines shots and three frame within a frame (using other objects to frame your subject) shots.


Homework: Do the same assignment except use subjects and objects away from school.

Due Monday the 17th of September: 12 INTERESTING shots using all four techniques described above. Some people will take 40-80 pictures for 12 good ones.

Multimedia: After Effects and Premiere work

Please create and edit in After Effects.
Remember, your group can split up the After Effects creation between group members.
When you are done with the After Effects work please export the clips and then place them in the Vidstore>Public Folder for sharing.
Everyone will make their own edit in Adobe Premiere.

Sound effects for EVERY SINGLE EFFECT. This is very important.

The project is due at the end of the period on Wednesday June 12. Seniors will turn in their projects about 20 minutes early so we can watch them in class. You may need to edit for one or two hours outside of class in order to get this project done on time. You can edit during TAP or after school as needed.

Output mode should be Lossless and you will select the Output mode to name your project and to pick where you want to save it.

The next Photo 2 Assignment (last assignment for Seniors): Still Life

• For this Still Life assignment you will shoot inanimate subject matter in a very precise way.
•  You will pick objects or items that go well together.
• You will be very careful to select proper lighting and color.
• Be creative with shadows.
• If you'd like you can create a "larger meaning" with a combination of objects.
• You will shoot the subject from multiple angles with different focus points.

Shoot 24-36 pictures during one Still Life photo session. These pictures are due Wednesday June 11.

Photo 1 June 4-10

Here is the schedule for this week in Photo 1. (Seniors, please see the special note for you at the bottom).

Tuesday June 4th
This is a shooting day. Please bring YOUR OWN cameras because I will not be checking cameras out. At the end of the period turn in your weekend work and the class work. The Contact Sheets should be called Final Project CS3 and CS4.
Some of you took pictures at two locations over the weekend. If you want to use Tuesday as an editing day you can. Don't forget to write down all Photoshop work as you go along. When you pick a "best picture" please write about the picture and include the following information:

·    Describe the location, photo composition and elements of design, rationale for picking picture, meaning of picture, anything unique about the circumstances or camera settings, and Photoshop adjustments.

Thursday June 6th

This is an all-day editing period for everyone.

Seniors:

Your Final Project Binder or Display is due on Tuesday June 11th. You will present your pictures to the class at that time. If you want me to print your pictures as 8*10 pictures (instead of going to Staples or Costco etc.) you will need to make sure they are in a folder called "naming convention_Final Pictures to Print" in the STAFF server. I will print these pictures Monday morning. 

Please note the following details for the Final Project:

A one-page reflection is also required. In this paper you need describe what you learned during your project. What did you learn about your subject, Photoshop, and photography in general. What was easy and difficult about your project? What would you do differently if you did it again? Finally, how far along do you think you have come as a photographer this semester?

• If you are creating a poster board your pictures should be printed out either  4*6 or 5*7,  with the exception of one photo that will be printed at 8*10. If you are turning in a binder all of the pictures can be 8*10.

• Projects should be turned in on poster board or in a binder with written with the written reflection attached. Look at examples at the front of the room.

• You will also be dropping these pictures in the Staff server so that we may view each project in front of the class.

Please pick one of your own pictures from each of the following categories:

Next, try a different tutorial from this list for each on of your pictures. Eventually you will have five different pictures adjusted. These will be due along with your edited "Homage to a Photographer" at the end of the period next Wednesday.

New Photography Masters Assignment:
 Use Text Edit to answer the following questions:

1. Look at the various work from ALL of the photographers listed below. This will take at least 30-40 minutes. You may even explore more up and coming photographers on your own.
2. Pick a photographer that you would like to emulate and pay homage. You will eventually re-create an exact picture and also create your own picture in the "style" of this photographer.
3. Tell me about the photographer and why you picked their work.
 In no LESS than one page please explain:

Photo 1 Final Project Treatment

1. What is your theme for your final project?Example: My theme project is Old America, Photomerge Seattle, or Man v. Nature.
2. Why did you choose this as your theme? What is interesting about this theme? Be specific. 2-3 sentences
3. What type of locations will you choose to shoot your pictures? Why? Keep in mind that you will need to leave campus and most likely leave Shoreline. Please give three or four examples.
4. What type of pictures do you hope to take? Action, portrait, landscape etc? A good photo essay will have a variety. Give me some specific examples and how they relate to your theme. Yes, I want you to attempt to describe pictures you haven't even taken yet. Visualize...
5a. What kind of composition will you focus on in your pictures? You will need at least five composition elements (not counting rule-of-thirds). Yes, again I want to know what you are attempting before you shoot. What will you try that you haven't done before?
5b. How will your pictures convey emotion, either from your subject or from the viewer of the pictures? Why will an audience really enjoy these pictures?
6. How much work will be done at school and how much away from school?
7. If you don't have a car, how will you make sure you get to your locations? Can your parents help? How about public transit?
8. This project should showcase everything you have learned in Digital Photography. How will you ensure this happens? What Photoshop adjustment techniques will you use? Please give three or four examples.
9. Is there anything you are unclear about in terms of composition or shot styles and angles etc? This is the time to ask.
10. What type of camera or Photoshop experimentation will you try? HDR? Photomerge pictures? Aperture adjustments? Shutter Speed work?
 
Send the treatment to my email account. Please CC at least one of your parents or guardians on the email so they know they extent of this project. They may need to help with transportation etc.

Photo 1 Final Project

Photo Essay Requirements:

• First pick a general theme. For example, you might pick America, Democracy, or Responsibility. You will shoot photographs centered on this central theme.
 This may include camera experimentation like shutter speeds, HDR, aperture adjustments, layering, or photomerges.

You can also explore photography we haven't talked about this semester like surrealism, impressionism, commercial, or environmentally conscience.

• Use what you've learned about photographic composition, lighting, color, lines, texture and use your camera to make a statement. Each individual photo will be graded accordingly. It is imperative you showcase your ability to shoot many angles of shots with many levels of camera composition (Review composition elements and types of shots if necessary).

• Your photographs should make both a visual and emotional/political/critical/intellectual statement. Your photo essay should contain at least 9 photographs. Below each picture you will also describe the composition elements used on each photo, what you did to adjust the picture, the photo settings used, why you picked this picture, and where you took the picture.

• Your photo essay should be something unique, new, and your own view of your selected theme.

Removing Hot Spots (HS): Clone Stamp set to darken instead of lighten. This is perfect for shiny faces.

• On the second layer go to effect>blur>Gaussian Blur

• Move the opacity of the 2nd layer to 50%

• Select eraser tool>select a soft edge brush

• Erase around the eyes, nose, ears, and mouth on the 2nd layer

  When you are finished adjusting the 24 pictures please turn in a Contact Sheet called Portraits Adjusted.

  Then pick your best 10 pictures and do the following:

Make Final Adjustments
Make sure all photos look conceptually and thematically similar. In other words, they should all look like they were shot for the same Magazine Fashion Spread.

Turn in your best 10 pictures in a FOLDER on Friday.

You are working for a fashion magazine that sells clothing to a specific audience. Your job together is to shoot two picture spreads to sell two different styles of clothing and accessories. This includes pants, coats, shirts, scarfs, shoes, socks, belts, dresses, shorts, and anything else a person can wear.

Photo 1 Portrait Assignment

Digital Photography: Portrait Assignment

You will shoot portraits over the next week on Tuesday May 7th and Thursday May 9th.

One day you will shoot at school using the lights in the studio and the other day you will shoot off-campus at a predetermined location. 

You will shoot AT LEAST 24 pictures of your subject each day (most of you will shoot between 50 and 75 pictures.

You can, and probably should, take pictures on the weekend as well.

1. Find two interesting human subjects. The people you choose should WANT to be in the picture and they should be willing to cooperate. It's OK to work with people in this class.
2. Talk to your subject. What type of portraits do you want to create? Use colors or lighting to create a concept for your portrait. Costumes or uniforms work great. Imaginary ideas are OK. Choose an interesting setting based on your concept.
3. Change angles between shots. Shoot at least 24 pictures of each subject.
4. Use props if they will help the audience learn something about the subject.
5. Vary the lighting. Use filters, flashlights, lamps, or multiple lights to enhance your picture. Use the different lighting techniques that you will read about in class (see above).
6. Encourage different emotional looks. Pretend you are Austin Powers taking pictures. Tell your subject they are "groovy".
7. Having your subjects "pose" in action is just fine.
8. Most importantly for this assignment don't forget your compostion rules. Use framing, leading lines, rule of thirds, color contrast etc. to enhance your photo. Fill the frame.

Photo 1 and 2: Turning in HDR Pictures

You will then turn in your best four HDR pictures:

• 3 Sunset/Sunrise pictures, each from a different location
• 1 Object or Room HDR

Note:
Each Sunset/Sunrise HDR must show a sunset or sunrise. If you still don't have three different locations you can take pictures tonight or tomorrow morning.

Indoor HDR Photography: Room or Object

Indoor HDR Photography:

• Pick an interesting object or room.
• Arrange everything in your shooting area in a meticulous fashion. Keep only the objects you want and need.
• Set up three to four lights around the object or room. Lighting is the key to this assignment. Use lamps, flashlights, and traditional light bulbs. If you can find colored lights that will make your picture even more interesting.
• Take seven or eight pictures at different exposures.
• Change angles around the object or room and do it again.

 

HDR Homework For Photo 1 and Photo 2 over Spring Break

Shoot three or four sets HDR pictures at a minimum of three locations.
Shoot these pictures at roughly Sunrise or Sunset. Sunrise is at roughly 6:00 am and sunset is at roughly 8:00 pm.
You can shoot landscape or cityscape shots.
Make sure you have objects in the foreground, mid-ground, and background.

HDR Assignment for Photo 1 and Photo 2

HDR This is a new assignment for some of you and for others it's something you have done before. There are detailed instructions on how to create HDR pictures below.

I'll give you some hints:
1. Use a tripod or something else completely steady.
 2. Take 4-56 pictures using a variety of shutter speeds from almost dark to too bright. (Adjusting aperture only works also). Please use the snow, sun, landscape, action, firework, and beach settings etc. if you are using a camera that cannot manually adjust
3. Make sure tripod is completely steady.
4. Import pictures and put all the HDR pictures in a folder on the desktop
5 Merge pics in Photoshop using automate>merge>HDR

In the instructions above they suggest you change your shutter speed (I have successfully created HDR merges with aperture adjustment). I will recommend you try both. You CAN take HDR pictures using a point and shoot camera. Instead of adjusting the aperture you can try different settings for each picture like Beach, Snow, Clouds, and Sun etc.

For this next assignment I want you to throw out all of the "rules" we've discussed in class this semester. This is your chance to be as creative as possible. I would recommend looking for patterns, colors, and shapes when deciding on pictures to take. Also try to take pictures of things you don't normally see in pictures.

Photo 1 Action Adjustments

 

You will adjust 18 pictures total.  Six of these pictures need to be Shorecrest related.

Here is what you need to do:

• Six Motion Blur and Cropped Pictures
• Six Grayscale Pictures using a variety of the Grayscale Adjustment methods
• Six Adjustments of your choice: Anything goes as long as we can see the main action
1. Please turn in the 18 adjusted pictures in a Contact Sheet called Action Adjusted CS.
2. Turn in your best six as Jpegs in a folder called Best Six Action. Two must be SC related.
3. Turn in your Best Picture for Printing.

You will adjust 24 pictures total. Here is what you need to do:

Multimedia: SCNN Commercial

Your next assignment will be a 15-25 second SCNN commercial for anything school related. This could include a dance, a game, a club, an event, or anything else. Content must be related to the specific school related item.
All animation should look sharp and detailed.
Use school colors where appropriate.

Your animation needs to include:

• Music AND sound effects throughout
• Keyframe animation
• Shape tween
• Two Motion Tween
• Two Movie Clips
• Text that says either "SCNN" or the information for the school club, group, or event
• Voices created by you using Garageband or other programs

Most of these projects will be between 200 and 400 frames each at 12 frames per second.
