Famous Spring Quotations Assignment

http://decideforyourself.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/spring2.jpg

"In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt."
-- Margaret Atwood

Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" ~Robin Williams

In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours. ~Mark Twain

I sing of brooks, of blossoms, birds, and bowers: Of April, May, of June, and July flowers. I sing of Maypoles, Hock-carts, wassails, wakes, Of bridegrooms, brides, and of their bridal cakes.
Robert Herrick

You will shoot two contact sheets based around two quotes about the spring season. I will list a few websites where you can find some quotes about spring, or you can find your own.

You will have shooting days on Wed/Thurs.
Contact sheets are due at the end of each of these days.
Next Wednesday you will have class time to adjust these pictures. One of these adjustments will be a collage.

Many spring quotes are directly about the seasons and nature. However, you will find many quotes that also deal with events or sports that take place during spring time like weddings, music festivals, baseball, and golf etc. You also may find quotes that talk about spring cleaning, BBQ's, family gatherings, Easter, and Mother's Day etc.

You may also use a quote from spring poems.

Don't forget, you can also try to find your own quotations as well.

Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Pictures

Sendai Earthquake and Tsunami slideshow photos

Instead of turning in your Action Photos today you will be looking at and analyzing photos from the recent Japanese earthquake/tsunami and it's aftermath.  You may look at photos from various web sites and/or do a Google search.

Assignment:
Find three pictures that you think are interesting and/or very emotional. Please post the link to these pictures in the comment section below and answer the following questions:

1. Why did you pick this picture? Please describe in two-three sentences and please be very specific.
2.  What type of composition is in this picture?
3. Do you think this would be a difficult picture to take? Why or Why not?
4. Do you think a professional or amateur took this picture?

You can post your responses all at once or one picture at a time. Don't forget to put your name at the end of your answers so I can give you credit.

Note: Action Photo CS1 is due Wed/Thurs. Action Photo CS2 is due next Monday.

Action Photo Practice

Today you will shoot and turn in a full contact sheet of action pictures. You should have 10-12 panning style pictures using shutter speeds of around 1/20-1/60 and then 10-12 pictures of regular fast shutter speeds (usually 1/500-1/2500).

How many of you remembered to bring some sporting equipment?
Suggested activities to shoot: someone running across the field, someone doing back handsprings or other gymnastic moves, anyone playing catch with a football or baseball, and hackysack etc.

If you aren't sure about the panning technique please review the motocross video with the Crocodile Hunter. The panning instruction starts at about 1:30.

You may use my cameras to shoot this assignment. Please share cameras and make sure you sign the sign out sheet when you leave and return. Mr. Story may help you with this assignment too.

Please return to class at 11:35 so you can upload your pictures and turn in the Contact Sheets. Your "Official" Action Picture Contact Sheets with a real sport are due on Monday.

Sports Photography

A detailed description of how to take good sports photos.

Please read the above link in it's entirety (pages 1-7) and write down what you think are the ten most important pieces of advice. Take solid notes.
List each item and describe it in one or two sentences.

Your first SC Sports Action Shot Contact Sheet will not be due until next Monday. However, you may start shooting at any time.
Focus on a few things: sharp focus, unique angles, capturing emotion, telling a story, and basically taking the viewer someplace they wouldn't normally get to be by just sitting in the stands.
Your most interesting subject may not always be the person with the ball, like the reaction shot below of the Husky bench after beating Marquette.

Washington's Austin Bragg and Scott Suggs react from the bench after Quincy Pondexter's game-winning layup during the first-round game against Marquette.

SCNN Commercial Assignment 2

You are going to create an “Open” for SCNN.

Requirements:

  • 20-30 seconds long
  • motion tween
  • shape tween
  • sound effects,
  • music
  • at least 7 layers
  • move a symbol along a motion path guide
  • Two Movie Clips
  • Moving background via motion tween
  • fade in/out audio and video
  • Work on creating depth in your animation. In other words animate the details.
  • Everything in this animation should move as close as possible to how they move in real life. You can do this via movie clip or keyframe animation.
Most importantly this video needs to get kids excited about watching SCNN. Use school colors if you can and even create school locations, teachers, students, clubs, and sports to make the video relevant to other SC students.
